HAA Volunteer Day – 2016 Activities
Various HAA chapter across US and Canada participated in the HAA volunteer day.

Atlanta Chapter
Atlanta Havyaka Chapter signed up with North Fulton Community charities with NFCC’s back to School event, preparing low income children to succeed academically by providing them with the tools, school supplies they need to attend the schools.
Atlanta chapter donated school suppiles and monitory donations during this event.

Midwest Chapter
On behalf of HAA volunteer day, Midwest Chapter hosted an Event at Feed my starving Children (FSMC) a non-profit organization on August 20th 2016. More than 70 members attended the event. It was a huge success! A total of 33,048 meals were packed by the team during the event. Kids and adults enjoyed volunteering at this venue and was a unanimous opinion that more such events need to be organized.

DC Chapter
DC HAA team and their visiting parents/siblings gathered at Kshama and Mahableshwara’s house around 6 pm on August 14 and made 20+ colorful no-sew blankets while showing off our hidden talents by playing AnTakshari. These blankets were donated to Children’s Hospital – University of Maryland Medical Center (http://umm.edu/programs/childrens) in Baltimore. More pictures from this event are shared here
“They were extremely happy and grateful to receive them. Quoting them: “They are extremely beautiful and our kids will be happy to receive such colorful gifts”…. To top it all, while the blankets were being transferred from the car to the cart, few folks asked whether they were for sale! “

DC team also hosted a 2nd event called “Train your Brain” . This Activity was held in Reston Regional Library on July 16. Around 50 to 60 Kids participated in the event playing and teaching chess, Sudoku and puzzles. Library Staff were very impressed and now they wanted this kind of event more often at least one per season.

Seattle Chapter
Seattle chapter members participated in Urban Forest Restoration Project as a part of their HAA Volunteer day. Thanks to Pooja Suresh Bhat, Aditi Srinivasan and Swamy Narayana for organizing this event.
